How I Plan my Zakaat

These ‘rules of thumbs’ have guided me in my Zakaat:

1. Zakaat purifies your wealth, protects it.

2. The more Zakaat you give, the more Allah Taala will give you.

3. It is better to give more Zakaat than eligible rather than less Zakaat and be accountable to Allah Taala on the day of Judgment

4. Syedna Ali ibn Abi Talib (SA) used to plan his wealth in such a way that he would keep aside some part to be given as charity/sadaqa for present and some he would keep aside to be spent in Ramadhan

5. I heard about a rich businessman, who used to make the intention/Niyyat of giving x amount of Zakaat next year – irrespective of whether he faces loss in his business

If he decided to give Rs 1,000,000 as Zakaat, think of how much he would have been blessed as actual wealth

If Rs 1,000,000 = 2.5%, what is 97.5%? Rs 39,000,000!

Therefore, I have a very simple method of planning my Zakaat

1. I make my intention/Niyyat of x amount, a year before. For example, this Ramadhan I have made my Niyyat of Zakaat for next Ramadhan
2. I keep aside x/12 amount every month

I somehow, have managed x amount every year (from the past three years) – Allah Taala has through some means or the other given me sustenance that my intention of Zakaat is achieved.
